Ferrensby Parish Meeting - Volunteer Update, Next Steps & Next Village Meeting
Good morning subscriber,

I want to share an update following our recent conversations, emails, and the informal meeting with volunteers. Many thanks to everyone who has offered their time and skills so far. Even the smallest contributions add up to make a real difference in our village.
Over the past weeks, we have worked out some of the roles people are willing to take on, and how we might organise ourselves for the future. Below is a summary of the key points from all recent communications.

Volunteer Roles & Contacts
Here is where we are so far, with names and emails (where planned) for each area:

Clerk(s)
A key admin and liaison role, organising meetings, taking minutes, liaising with the council, and handling paperwork (like the annual audit and AGAR).

  • Jasia Painter
  • Sue Aspinall (as part of Clerk role)

  • Pauline Ward - verge planting, village green maintenance, flower tubs
  • Stephen Jarmuz - pond plant cages, installing picket fences, allotment improvements
  • Frank Farmer - pond maintenance and improvements

Commuted Funds Available
We also have commuted sums from the council that could fund village improvements like planting, re-wilding, signage, and green space work. These are available until various dates, and we do not want them to expire unused:
  • Verges (Land off Harrogate Road, Ferrensby) - £7,680.00 (until 21/02/2032)
  • Allotments (Low Hall, Copgrove Lane) - £26.10 (until 07/07/2025)
  • Allotments (Land off Harrogate Road) - £1,500.00 (until 21/02/2032)
  • Pond area (Low Hall, Copgrove Lane) - £49.31 (until 07/07/2025)
  • Pond area (Farnham Livery) - £41.62 (expired, but listed for reference)
  • Pond area (Land off Harrogate Road) - £3,011.90 (until 21/02/2032)
These funds are an excellent opportunity for projects like:
  • Re-wilding areas with native wildflowers and grasses
  • Planting and landscaping
  • Signage for village spaces
  • General maintenance of green spaces
If you have any ideas for using these funds, please email Robin (projects@ferrensby.com), Jonathan (chair@ferrensby.com), and Sue/Pooja (clerk@ferrensby.com).

Defibrillator Information
There is a village defibrillator that is located in the phone box on Harrogate Road near the pond. If required in an emergency, access to this is via Yorkshire Ambulance Service, and if they feel it is required, they will provide you with a code to access this.

Next Steps
  • Pub gathering: Feedback from a recent chat between the General Manager and Julie/Sue suggests that the General Tarleton should open within a couple of months. We are considering hosting our next informal volunteer meet-up therein about a month, once open and possibly a small village social as part of their re-opening. Jasia and Sue will be investigating.
  • Village picnic: There is enthusiasm for a summer picnic, potentially on the green at Slingby Close or Pond Road, which we can close off because Highways and the council have confirmed they no longer maintain it (as discovered during the pond dredging project).
  • Anyone interested in playing Pickleball? Contactsueaspinall@exceed-global.com or via What’s App.
Next Village Meeting

We’re planning the next Ferrensby Parish Meeting for early September instead of the usual autumn date. This is so we can officially set up new roles and volunteers under the Local Government Act 1972, which governs how parish meetings make decisions and appoint officers. We’ll share the exact date soon and hope many of you can join us.
Thank You

A huge thanks to everyone for stepping up, whether to help organise, dig, plant, build, post updates, or simply share ideas. Every bit of involvement helps keep Ferrensby a vibrant, friendly village.
Warmest regards,
Jonathan Pow
Chair, Ferrensby Parish Meeting
